It's not just me who isn't getting LJ comment notifications, is it?

So I promised a few tutorials to darlingbones and library_of_sex, but as I suck, I took a long time even starting them.

I usually suck at tutorials mostly because I like tutorials that explain things and techniques and I really can't explain for crap and most of what I do everyone who is making icons for a while does as well and better. I am the least organized person you can find in terms of making a graphic. Most of the time I just throw things at my icons to see what looks right, so I don't always have a set idea on what I want to make or use the best tools for the job. As such, explaining my process is just going to be a set of 'now do this' steps, which is not what I like in tutorials.

I use a lot of textures in my icons and there are some really great tutorials on how to use those that will be better than anything I might ever try to do, so check them out (here by coqette or here by ohfreckle).

However, I'm going to try and explain a bit of what I did on the icons and graphics requested. I'm sorry for any rambling and confusion but I don't always know how to explain myself. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Tutorials are not entirely translatable from Photoshop in terms of coloring because Variations and Selective Color are used, but the coloring isn't really the most important part of these.

Note: At this point, this is a bit like a placeholder post. I'll link to the other tutorials when I finish them. They're my project for today.

I was gonna decorate all early this year but I didn't feel it and I still don't and it makes me sad cause I love Christmas. Had it in London cause there was the music and ornaments everywhere but here, not as much. Poo.

I wanna start today by telling you of how Ellen Tigh loves my fanvids.

A long time ago, I noticed my "Alcohol" BSG fanvid was under "Music" on Kate Vernon's Myspace page. It made me really excited, but I still didn't know if she was behind the site or had even seen it. But when I realized I would have the chance to ask her herself at Starfury I got really excited, and opportunity showed up right away; I had very mellow fellow fans at my Meet'n'Greet table so I actually did a lot of the talking with the guests, and when Kate Vernon came there was half a pause as we'd said all "how are you"'s, so I immediately jumped in and told her I had sort of a weird question to ask. (To her credit, she didn't even vince, lol) And so I asked her first if she was behind her own MySpace page and she said that her assistant or whatever maintained it for her. All right. And so I continued to ask about "a Battlestar fan video under her music section set to the song 'Alcohol' by Barenaked Ladies.." and she knew right away which one I meant. "Well", I said. "I made that video." And her face just lights up, and she leans over the table to grab my hand and goes "OH MY GOD I LOVE THAT VIDEO! YOU SHOULD MAKE MORE!" :D :D :D :D :D :D

Could not have had a better start to the con, seriously.
She really liked it, told me to send it to her Facebook and she even asked me if I'd told James Callis & Jamie Bamber about it. I don't really know why I would tell them about a fanvid on her MySpace though.. the only conclusion I draw from that is that they've seen it too? Maybe? And maybe ever Michael Hogan? :D
But seriously, that is so awesome. And since it's been pulled from YouTube by Barenaked Ladies' record company, for some reason her MySpace has been the only place where you could still see it, though not anymore. But! Thanks to Vimeo, here it is;

Because I was bored and not focusing on editing the True Blood article like I should have been today, I spammed andi_horton with crack!fic first lines that I'll never write.

The last few days a lot of non-Kent fans have been telling me how they're "not really Kent fans at ALL, but that Töntarna song is REALLY good". The new album is really so good and yet it went by so fast somehow. Maybe cause it's such a long time yet until the gigs.








Not at all related, I've been thinking a lot of and have had a lot of random flashbacks to my US trip. How awesome wasn't that? Answer: So very. ♥

Hey, guys! So, thank you so much to whoever sent me some Holiday cheer in the form of a snowflake v-gift. You're awesome! That really made my day. Also, the same to the person sent me a llama v-gift some time ago. I never had the opportunity to thank you, whoever you may be! I love llamas. :)
